This cover was commissioned by a neuroscience graduate student whose scientific paper on mammalian brain development had been accepted into Cell, a biomedical journal that publishes research papers in life sciences.
The goal was to visually reference how the gene that she had been studying was a master regulator in early development of the brain, controlling the expression of many other genes.
